I am inspired by the restorative relationship between humans and nature and am currently investigating the cycle of decay, loss, and new growth across various mediums, including textiles, paper, and paint.

As my practice has evolved, I’ve found myself increasingly drawn to embroidery as a way to express these ideas. What began as an exploration of texture and form has transformed into a connection with the intimate, tactile process of creation. Using embroidery to interpret my surroundings has given me a unique voice. Since embroidery, sewing, and mending have traditionally been seen as women’s work, I am particularly drawn to this medium as a way to honor the labor of all women who create and sustain life. Embroidery offers a unique kind of expression—slow, meditative, and deeply personal. It allows me to explore the intersection of nature, memory, and tradition, while honoring the quiet strength in the act of making.

Fabric and Print

This work is from the series The Unraveling of Our Freedom. It is made with pieces of an old flag found in the basement of a house we purchased a few years ago. Everything about that flag represents the constitutional crisis unfolding. It is torn, tattered, faded, stained and in shreds. It is unraveling. The printed words describe my thought process as I worked with these remnants. I wanted to use the simplicity of design with common words and phrases to highlight complex and overwhelming feelings. The colors of the flag are symbolic. The red represents hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice. The ideals and qualities that used to be part of our social fabric and defined who we were.
